RE: The Holiday 20

Recently, I read a post dreading the "holiday 20" lbs. Isn't it so true that if we're not careful, we WILL gain 20 lbs every holiday season? Well, I guess guys don't have the same difficulty, but seriously? Why?

Something I heard a couple weeks ago really stuck with me. We have two mental options this season. Will Power vs Choice Muscle.

Will Power implies we have it or we don't. So many of us don't. But our Choice Muscle? What is that? Its the ability to say NO to the extra cream puff, the ice cream that covers the apple crisp, and that last chocolate covered caramel. But every time we say no, our muscle is being worked and is getting stronger. May we all grow our Choice Muscles this winter! Let's beat that Holiday 20!

Beautiful Ride

About a month ago, we got a new bishopric in our singles ward. It didn't take long for Bishop Swenson to hear that I hadn't ridden a horse in a very long time, but that I loved it. So what awesome thing did he do? He invited me and my RS Presidency out for a ride! He only keeps 4 horses in the valley so my first counselor get left out of this ride, but she'll be on the next one because Bishop wants to go again! It was a fabulous afternoon!

I love being on the majestic horses. There is just a peace that comes from riding through the mountains on such a grand animal that you can't feel anywhere else!

It was so much fun to race the horses!

October Eves

Listen! The wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves.
We have had our summer evenings, now for October Eves!

Mi Casa

Many of you may remember a year a go when I posted that I was moving into this FABULOUS place! I promised there would be pictures, but miserably failed. One year later, give or take a couple days, I am finally posting pictures. Mostly because I am now looking for another roommate. One is getting married and is moving out in less than a week and we need another renter. But, for your pleasure, here is a brief tour.

The front drive is U-shaped for friendliness on the busy street. Its also big enough that we have plenty of parking for all 4 cars. The house is tucked back far enough to diminish the sounds from the street. Mostly.

We have a huge kitchen!!! There is so much space we haven't even filled it all yet. Plus, there is another kitchen downstairs (minus an oven, stove, & dishwasher) so we are never left without food. Hehe!

This is our front room. It has a 16'H vaulted ceiling, and a great gas fireplace. When the blinds are lifted, the view from the chair is of Mount Olympus and unobstructed! This is my favorite place in the house.

This is our massive backyard. Because we're in a twin home, we do share it with our neighbors, but they are really nice. To be honest, we actually have never used it since there isn't a patio, only 3 feet of cement outside the basement door. Still looks nice though.

Our land lord takes care of all yard maintenance and snow removal so pretty much, we're living easy! I'm very happy here. Now if I could just find a roommate... :)

Porsche

So, Friday night I cruised around in this.

And I loved EVERY second of it!

Thanks Jeff!

So What Have I Been Up To?

This one's for you, Erin! ;)

Its been a BUSY summer full of lots of work, church, holidays, family events, weddings, and plain fun. Here's a brief photo update!

My friend Missy got married and we had fun at her reception. (L to R) Cammie T, Ingrid B, Liz D, me

And who can pass up Kneader's breakfast after the balloon festival? Total Provo tradition.

Fireworks with friends

Boating. Thanks Dev!

My very first attempt to slalom... success! Although, my form has definite room for improvement.

Devin let me drive the boat! Wahoo! Then I got wasted on the tube while he drove. (L to R) Me, Cammie, Ryan

Oquirrh Mountain LDS Temple open house in South Jordan, UT. Sorry if you missed it. It was absolutely beautiful!

Celebrated my roommate's birthday at the Cheesecake Factory. Happy birthday Cammie!

With family doing fireworks.

Saying goodbye to Brittany. She was the 1st counselor in my Relief Society Presidency. The east coast was calling her name... I miss her.

My cousin Mary got married on July 29. Sarah and I, aka Keddington Weddings, planned it, but I'm still waiting on the awesome pictures from Liz Draper Photography so I can showcase it in the right light. It was amazing!
[Pictures should be here]

And most recently, YSA Summit at the U of U Institute. Met some cool people, learned a lot, ran a 5k for a fundraiser, danced, and was spiritually uplifted. What a great weekend! (L to R) me, Jon, Cammie

Facebook Communicado

So this is what happened of Facebook yesterday, for those of you who don't follow me religiously... which is probably most of you since my telecommunication time has dramatically decreased over the past year. So here is it. I had a thought that I've been mulling over for quite some time. It is just a general thought, no event in mind when I posted it as my "what are you thinking" comment. Read the responses. Amazing how people interpret!

Rachel Keddington I do believe that our generation is the worst with commitment. I mean, its just one night! Yes or No. Is it really that hard to make ANY choice?

I couldnt agree more... arent we always looking for bigger or better. lol
By the way how are you?

Jimmy A. Winskowski
Yeah, so I have NO idea what this is about, but I feel like our gen is super bad at commitment, many of us at least. Only want the good and unwilling to take the bad that comes with it.

Liz Draper
I do believe this is your first time with a status update in months! Way to commit! ;-)
Ok teasing, I agree completely. I think technology has made it way too easy for people to get out of things and leave friends in the dust :-(

Oh girl, I hear ya. I do get what you say and what this generation holds.

Will Peterson
"Just one night"? Not sure what the context is, but be careful about those one nighters! .... BTW, I sure could go for a Twinkie right now ... but just one! I'm not going to commit to two! ... no way!

Isn't our generation just the smartest generation ever? Who needs anything more than one night. We have finally figured it out. We should hold our heads high and be proud of ourselves!

So yes, our generation does not commit. Take it for what you will. But from now on, I'm going to work on saying yes or no. No more of this "maybe" stuff that Facebook has so quickly ingrained into our daily vocabulary. I'm ready.

Rainbows

Rainbow: The sign or token of God’s covenant with Noah (Gen. 9: 13-17). JST, Gen. 9: 21-25 explains that the covenant includes the promises that the earth will never again be covered with a flood of water, that the Zion of Enoch will return, and that the Lord will come again to dwell on the earth.

How cool it is that we can be reminded of that every so often. Friday night, I had the blessing of witnessing this awesome rainbow! I am ever so grateful to carry my camera all the time.

By the way, this photo is NOT touched up in anyway. It was seriously this bright!

Plumbing Issues

Hill Air Force Base Air Show 2009

Yesterday, today, and probably for the next few days, I'm home sick with the SWINE FLU... yes, that's right. SWINE FLU.

While I'm home, what better to do with my time than catch up on things I'm behind on, like blogging? And, here ya go.

Last weekend, I went with a bunch of friends to Hill Air Force Base in Clearfield to watch the air show. On the drive up, we got stuck in the tail end traffic of a huge accident that closed both directions of I-15 for 3 hours. We thought about going up earlier, but I'm grateful we didn't. After being so late to the base, we only got to see about an hour of the show, but what an hour it was! The only souvenirs I took home with me are the pictures and videos below. The last one is my favorite!

If this works, then I can start posting from anywhere, which means much better blogging! Or, at least more up to date blogging!

Penny Pinching

At some point in our lives, we will all struggle financially. I keep hoping to marry into money and then I won't have to worry about it... but lets be real. Probably not going to happen! Instead, I'll probably have to live off coupons while I put a husband through a graduate program or something. The truth is, it can't hurt to begin teaching myself how to be frugal and money smart.

First things first, its time to read some good books. A couple years ago, I read The Richest Man In Babylon and loved it. I should read that again, followed by Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace-Revisited. May I suggest to friends and family who may also be in need of some education to do the same. In the meantime, if you don't have either of these books accessible to you, just try learning to penny pinch. If you need a little nudge, or simply some suggestions of how to get started, visit this blog Penny Pincher Advice. Best of luck to you all! (And to me)

"Where's Your Husband?"

"Where's your husband, Rachel?" That's what I was asked today by my sweet niece Eliza (below). My response of "I don't have one Eliza" was quickly shot down by her astute observation. "But Sarah has one!"

Sarah and I busted up laughing. Who doesn't adore the honesty of children?

Wish I knew, Eliza. Wish I knew!

That was Wicked!

After 6 months of holding onto my tickets (and thinking I lost them for 3 of the 6) I finally saw Wicked!

Sarah and I had a blast at the musical. Neither of us had seen it before, but we'd heard some of the music. I was pleasantly surprised by the comedy of the show, and also the tenderness. It is a total must see the next time I go to NYC! It was such a great night! Thanks for coming Sarah.

What happens in Vegas

You know you're in Vegas when you see this... times a lot.

Or this.

But surprise, bet you didn't know this was in Vegas! We didn't either before we got there. In fact, it was still opening week!
Serendipity

Yes, of course we ate there and had their famous frozen hot chocolate. I have got to figure out how they do it. It was amazing!

Natalie and I at Serendipity

The view from our room was spectacular. Thank you front desk man for accidently putting us in a better room than we reserved, and messing up our payment so we could stay in the better room... AND, for being the reason we got free breakfast buffet the next morning, when you so kindly told us, "This is Vegas, breakfast isn't free." :)

Day 2 - M&M Store, a total must!
At Trader Joe's we saw this, and couldn't help but laugh! Love the description of milk glass and tater tots! As if we couldn't tell. Sweet. All in all, it was a great weekend. Thank you random stock market holidays for giving us a reason to leave.
