It's Official

So finally, after 3 weeks of secret relief society meetings, I can finally announce that I have a new calling... Relief Society President!

I was given the calling 3 weeks ago, but because of General Conference, and our ward conference, they decided to wait to call my counselors and secretary, and to sustain us. Well, today it became official, making it okay for me to share the exciting/daunting/almost overwhelming news with you all.

I think the very hardest thing for me to do during those 3 weeks, was keep it quiet. I had so many thoughts going through my head, but I had to keep it quiet, continue in my previous calling, all while secretly learning the ropes of my new calling. It was quite a task.

I asked the Bishop to let me know when my counselors were called so I could contact them, and I cannot explain the relief I felt when I got off the phone with my Bishop Thursday night. To know these girls were excited to work with my and ready to be by my side lightened the heaviness felt by my secretiveness. Then today after we were sustained and set apart, that same heaviness was nearly gone. Having these girls with me is so important to the success of my calling.

The organization of this church is amazing to me. Never at any point do the leaders of any and all different auxiliaries have to feel alone. The Lord intends to run His church with organization and the best way to do that is to have presidencies, bishoprics, and groups of leaders. Being in this position helps me to understand just how important it is to have others there to support you. I truly believe all things have a purpose.

As I begin to work with the sisters in my ward, I know I will more fully understand the purpose of Relief Society. I am excited for this challenge, fully knowing it will be just that, but the simplest of blessings make it so worth it. So, bring on the challenge!

Photoshop Rookie

So I've decided its probably time I start learning how to use PhotoShop. Honestly, I know so little about photo jargon that I'm totally lost! I did finally learn how to make a photo black and white. So, in honor of the first snow storm we had this last weekend, lets take a look back at the first snow storm Provo had in 2003, aka my freshman year of college. Enjoy!

General Conference

In addition to being spiritual, General Conference always proves to be fabulously entertaining. I had a large group of friends at my place for breakfast and to watch the Sunday morning session; but nothing quite compares to the following story which comes from an email sent by my co-worker. I got such a great laugh that I knew it must be shared.

This, I guess, is what we all have to look forward to when becoming parents!


Saturday was full of football and volleyball games so I TiVo’d the Saturday sessions. The rule in our house is that everybody watches the Sunday morning session and then the kids only have to listen to the prophet in the afternoon session.

The morning session went something like this:

Opening prayer ends.
Megan: Is it almost over?
Jaden: No you idiot, it just started.
Megan: Mom, he called me an idiot.
Jaden: That’s because you just asked an idiotic question!
Daisha: Both of you are idiots, now be quiet!
David: All of you stop calling names! You are ruining the spirit of conference!
Megan: There’s a ghost in conference?
Jaden: Not that kind of spirit, you idiot!
Megan: Mom, he called me an idiot again!
Daisha: Jaden, she is only 6. She doesn’t understand anything.
Jace (the 2 year old): STOP IT! (he just randomly yells this when the other kids get too loud)
Jaden: Yeah, she’s dumb.
Megan: (in fake tears): Mom, they said I’m dumb!
David: All of you shut your mouths and listen!

SILENCE FOR ABOUT 7 GLORIOUS MINUTES

Megan: Is it almost over?
Jaden: Oh my gosh Megan, of course it’s not almost over!
Daisha: Duh Megan, you have no concept of time.
Megan: Mom, Daisha said I have no sunshine!
Jaden laughs hysterically
Daisha slowly repeats: NO CONCEPT OF TIME!
Megan: What does that mean?
Daisha and Jaden proceed to explain the concept of time in very condescending, rude, and loud voices.
Jace: STOP IT!
And then they all start to tease each other and wrestle as David and I tell them over and over again to quiet down and listen.
David: OK, anybody who does not shut their mouth and listen to the rest of the morning session will be required to watch the ENTIRE second session.

SILENCE FOR 5 SECONDS

Megan (meekly): We were just having fun.
Me (out of frustration): WE DON’T HAVE FUN AT CONFERENCE. NOW SHUTUP AND LISTEN!

Needless to say, I didn’t catch very much of conference. I did TiVo all of the sessions but I will probably just read them in the Ensign….I don’t get much out of conference on conference weekend!

Does this mean I'm really an adult?

After realizing that neither my roommates nor I had ANY living room furniture, I began scowering the internet for a good deal on some nice couches. That's when I found these.

I saw the price, knew it was right, and was left to decide if I was ready to make such a financial commitment. Well, I did! They're mine! RC Willey will be delivering them on Saturday to my new casa!

While I was at the store, the salesperson helping me noticed the big red M on my shirt (I was on my lunch break and happened to wear my Modern shirt today) and told me she knew our HR director! This, I think, is the reason I got such a good deal on the delivery. Then to make it better, they've been running a promotion that ends today where I don't have to pay sales tax! You put together the delivery deal, the no tax, and the already amazing sales discount on these couches and I totally scored! It must have been my lucky day!

New Home

FYI, I got the twin home and have all 4 rooms full! I took this last week to move but am still stopping by my parents' home just about every day as I do my laundry and continue taking the last bit of my stuff over.

I don't have pictures yet because there is absolutely no furniture in our place. I borrowed some stools from my work to put at our island until we can figure out what size bolts to get to put our table together. We have NO couches (so if you have any you want to get rid of, please call me), I have no bed, and am sleeping on my parents' AeroBed until I can afford to buy my own.

Anyway, I love my new place and am excited to be out on my own again. I haven't taken any pictures yet since the place is so bare, but someday soon I'll get them up. Love you all, and come visit my new place anytime (but call first so I can be there!)

Need Roommates

My friend Cammie and I found an amazing place to live this week and will finally be moving out! Only catch... we need 2 more roommates to fill the place and keep rent reasonable. Move in would be Oct 1, but we can maybe fib a month if necessary. If you know any girls who want a new place to live with great roommates, fabulous ward, and the perfect singles housing arrangement, have them call me. You probably all have my number, but if not, let me know that you have someone interested and I'll get you my number. Thanks for you help!
